Is Fall the Season for Personal Change?

I’ve been reading many articles recently about people seeing fall as a second New Years. With school back in the routine, the weather beginning to shift, and the days growing shorter change is all around us.

Perhaps, it could be a time for personal renewal. A time for recommitting to goals or setting some new ones.

The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran states that goals that are set for a 12 week time frame have a higher success rate than goals set for an entire year. With about 12 weeks left in the year, maybe this is just the right time to step into a new or renewed goal.

So, what could that look like?

Maybe you want to lose some weight, take better care of yourself, eat healthier, get rid of some pain, do something good for your community, grow closer to Jesus….

Whatever your little heart desires!

So, how do you get started?

Well, start by choosing a goal. You want it to be reasonable, measurable, and achievable. And make sure to tell people about your goal. Don’t just keep it to yourself.

Then, decide why you want that goal. What’s the why underneath your why? That means dig deep to uncover what is the driving force behind this desire.

After that, MAKE. A. PLAN.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Eek! Choose small steps that will help you reach your goal by the end of the time frame.  Then, put that plan in place! Work your plan!  Sounds simple enough right?  Well, what happens if I fall off track or lose momentum or willpower?

Great question! Return your mind to your why! Why did you decide to step into this goal? Why did you decide to do the hard work? This is where the why underneath your why is super powerful! Take a deep breath (or 100) and decide to step back into the game, step back into the plan. And pray!  Ask God to help you stick with it!

“So I say to you:  Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”  Luke 11:9 (NIV)

Change doesn’t happen because it’s easy. There will always be hard choices, hard work, and dedication to make it to the end. But it’s not impossible! Especially if you commit your plan to God. He will order your steps to help you be successful.

“Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.”  Proverbs 16:3 (MSG)

Need help in putting all this in place? Need help setting yourself up for inevitable success? I’m here for you! Let me know how I can help! And then, go get those goals!

Happy Fall New Year!!
